Student Council
SKI is proud to have an active Student Council. The Executive Committee is comprised of high school students. While students in Grades 4 – 8 serve in the capacity of Homeroom Representatives. The group works to ensure that student voices are heard and activities are planned that represent everyone. The Council has raised funds for sports equipment, mascot costumes, paint for murals and chrome books. In addition, they host two annual Spirit Weeks, various holiday events for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day (to name a few). Further they organize many of our community outreach projects.
EYE on SKI
SKI Academy is proud to have a news broadcast team. Our students are the anchors and crew. They work with the SKI teaching staff to organize the segments and record the various components. It is a great way to spotlight the work of our students and share what is happening at our school.
Community Outreach
SKI Academy sponsors a Christmas Drive in which food baskets and Christmas gifts are provided to 10 families annually. In addition, a Spring Cleaning event takes place in which families donate gently used clothing and household items that are given to organizations that work with families in need. SKI also raises funds annually for the Autism Spectrum Center and the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Society each year. SKI also encourages high attendance at the Children’s Home Walk each year.
Annual Events
International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace is held each year on the 21st of September. This United Nations sponsored event is aimed at promoting peace world wide. At SKI each year we encourage families to join us in wearing white and helping us create a human peace sign. In addition, we create postcards for peace that are distributed throughout the community.
SKI's 'Rock Your Colors' Independence Concert
SKI is proud to honor the culture of our beloved Federation each year on the eve of our Independence Day. Our playing field, called The Flats, unintentionally forms an outdoor amphitheater. Each year cultural performers such as Masquerades, Mocko Jumbies, steel pans and the St. Peter’s Actors. In addition, various local musicians perform various songs for our audience.
Performing Arts Night & Silent Art Auction
To allow our students to spotlight their many talents, we host a performing arts night each year. There are various themes, however each class puts together an act. In addition, there are individual and small groups of students acts also included. Also included in this fun night is our silent art auction in which student art is displayed and sold. Proceeds benefit the art program at SKI.
Muffins with Mom & Donuts with Dad
At SKI we love our moms and dads. What better way to honor them on their special days than to spend some extra quality time with them. Students create cards and small tokens for their parents in art class. These are presented to their parents at these event. Parents come to school with picnic blankets and some beautiful breakfast baskets and enjoy some extra quality time with their children and the greater SKI family.
Leap Into Reading - Annual Read-A-Thon
Reading is the cornerstone of all that we do. To celebrate and encourage that students read as much as possible we host an annual read-a-thon. This event doubles as a fundraiser for SKI. Each year there is a different theme. There are many events including the launch event called our Reading Garden Party. In addition, there are dress up days, buddy-up reading days and our read around the island challenge to name a few.
Science & Social Studies Fairs
Alternating from year to year, SKI asks students to take a deep dive into the areas of Science and Social Studies. Students select topics, do research and experiments and ultimately create some amazing project boards complete with various artifacts. The students present to judges and then the fair is opened up for parents to come through and see everyones hard work.
Sports - The SKI Rockets
SKI's Sports Day
Each year SKI hosts a Sports Day. The school is split into four houses. These multi-age and grade level teams include:
Blue Dolphins
Green Vipers
Red Sharks
Yellow Falcons
Leading up to the big day there are team meetings and heats events. At the end there is a heats winner, a Sports Day winner and an overall winner. The friendly competition brings out a lot of fun amongst the whole student body.
Private School Track Meet
SKI participates in the Department of Sports Private School’s Track Meet each year. It is a fun-filled day in which the Private School Zone gets their turn to spotlight their best athletes. The event typically takes place at the Kim Collins Stadium.
Ram's Primary Track Meet
Each year SKI sends several of our talented team to the Ram’s Primary Meet. This is SKI’s opportunity to compete with the top athletes from every primary school in the Federation. It is a multi-day event which includes a day for field event and a day for the track events.
